# Keras confusion matrix generator

If there are only two factor levels, the first level will be used as the "positive" result. When data has two levels, prevalence should be a single numeric value. Otherwise, it should be a vector of numeric values with elements for each class.

The vector should have names corresponding to the classes. For two class problems, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value is calculated using the positive argument. Also, the prevalence of the "event" is computed from the data unless passed in as an argumentthe detection rate the rate of true events also predicted to be events and the detection prevalence the prevalence of predicted events.

For more than two classes, these results are calculated comparing each factor level to the remaining levels i. The overall accuracy and unweighted Kappa statistic are calculated. A p-value from McNemar's test is also computed using mcnemar. The overall accuracy rate is computed along with a 95 percent confidence interval for this rate using binom. For two class systems, this is calculated once using the positive argument. If the reference and data factors have the same levels, but in the incorrect order, the function will reorder them to the order of the data and issue a warning.

Is the validation data the same as test data I think not. If there was a separate test folder on similar lines as the train and validation folders, how do we get a confusion matrix for the test data. I know that we have to use scikit learn or some other package to do this, but how do I get something along the lines of class wise probabilities for test data?

I am hoping to use this for the confusion matrix. For example, use model. For example, compare the probabilities with the case that there are cats and dogs respectively.

The Keras documentation uses three different sets of data: training data, validation data and test data. Training data is used to optimize the model parameters. The validation data is used to make choices about the meta-parameters, e. After optimizing a model with optimal meta-parameters the test data is used to get a fair estimate of the model performance. For confusion matrix you have to use sklearn package.

I don't think Keras can provide a confusion matrix. For predicting values on the test set, simply call the model. The type of output values depends on your model type i. It returns the predictions, which you can use to calculate a confusion matrix.Confusion matrix is an excellent method to illustrate the results of multi-class classification. It takes a single function call in Matplotlib to generate a colorful confusion matrix plot. However, you have to first have your results in the form of a confusion matrix.

Let me illustrate with an example. Assume, you have 4 classes: A, B, C and D. Your classifier does great on A, C and D with fully accurate results. You should be able to extract such classification results from your classifier easily. You just need to put these results in a 2D float Numpy array in the form of a confusion matrix. In this type of matrix, typically the true classes are listed on the Y axis, top to bottom. The predicted classes are listed on X axis, from left to right.

For our example, the confusion matrix would look like this:. Once you have this as a 2D float Numpy array, just pass it to the matshow method of Matplotlib to generate the confusion matrix plot. To get a temperature scale of the colors used in the plot, call the colorbar method:. To add X-axis, Y-axis labels, and other modifications, use the typical calls you use in Matplotlib for other types of plots.

For our example, the confusion matrix would look like this: [[ 0 0 0 ] [10 70 20 0 ] [0 0 0 ] [0 0 0 ]] Optionally, you can also normalize the results to 1. To get a temperature scale of the colors used in the plot, call the colorbar method: import matplotlib.

Below are the probabilities that the model was assigning to whether the first five patients from the test set were more or less likely to experience side effects from an experimental drug. We then create a variable cmwhich will be the confusion matrix. You can refresh your memory about how we obtained these variables in previous episodes. This is code that they provide in order to plot the confusion matrix.

Next, we define the labels for the confusion matrix. Looking at the plot of the confusion matrix, we have the predicted labels on the x-axis and the true labels on the y-axis. The blue cells running from the top left to bottom right are the cells that the model accurately predicted. The white cells are the cells that were incorrectly predicted.

There are total samples in the test set. Looking at the confusion matrix, we can see that the model accurately predicted out of total samples. The model incorrectly predicted 29 out of the For the ones the model got correct, we can see that it accurately predicted that the patients would experience no side effects times.

It incorrectly predicted that the patient would have no side effects 10 times when the patient did actually experience side effects.

On the other side, the model accurately predicted that the patient would experience side effects times that the patient did indeed experience side effects. It incorrectly predicted that the patient would have side effects 19 times when the patient actually did not experience side effects. As you can see, this is a good way we can visually interpret how well the model is doing at its predictions and understand where it may need some work.

No assignment for this lesson. In this video, we demonstrate how to create a confustion matrix that we can use to interpret predictions given by a Keras Sequential model.Last timewe built and trained our very first CNN. First, ensure that you still have the code in place from last time when we built the model. This is what the batch of test data looks like. Just as we saw before, dogs are labeled as [1,0]and cats are labeled as [0,1].

## Keras - Python Deep Learning Neural Network API

We also specify the number of stepswhich is the total number of steps, or batches, to yield from the generator before stopping.

After running, the predictions, we can print them out to see what they look like. These are the labels that the model is predicting for our images. The model is currently predicting that all of our images have a label of [0,1]which recall, is the label for cat. This, of course, is not good, but we did not expect our model to predict well at this point due to the metrics we saw during training.

We create the confusion matrix using scikit-learnwhich we imported a couple episodes back. To the conusion matrix, we pass the true labels of the test set, along with the predicted labels for the test set from the model. We transform the predicted labels to be in the same format as the true labels by taking only the zeroth index of the label so that cat is now simply a 0and dog is a 1. We can see that the model correctly predicted that an image was a cat 5 times when it actually was a cat, and it incorrectly predicted that an image was a cat 5 times when it was not a cat.

At this point, the model is no better than chance. Given the simplicity of our model, along with the small amount of training it has encountered, we can understand that it is not sophisticated enough to accurately predict the labels for the images.

Preparing the test data First, ensure that you still have the code in place from last time when we built the model. Blues : """ This function prints and plots the confusion matrix. And about the question of govindrajmohan Someone know how to plot ROC curve in this scenario? The goal for validation dataset is to measure the accuracy how model behave on unseen data, so its valid here to predict on val dataset. Thank you so much for the post. I have got a question here.

Thank you. For large number of classes, it will be difficult to write all of the target names. In the training dataset, did you put Cats, Dogs and Horse images each.

How did you organized images in validation. Can you provide me image dataset?

You signed out in another tab or window. Image Generator.Model accuracy is not a reliable metric of performance, because it will yield misleading results if the validation data set is unbalanced. For example, if there were 90 cats and only 10 dogs in the validation data set and if the model predicts all the images as cats. The confusion matrix allows us to visualize the performance of the trained model.

It makes it easy to see if the system is confusing two classes. It also summarizes the results of testing the model for further inspection. First, create a very simple model and compile it, setting up the optimizer and loss function and train it. The compile step also specifies that you want to log the accuracy of the classifier along the way. The diagonal elements represent the number of points for which the predicted label is equal to the true label, while off-diagonal elements are those that are mislabeled by model.

We use matplotlib to plot confusion matrix and Seaborn library to create a heatmap. The confusion matrix shows that this model has some problems. The model needs more work.
